Every year, the Grade one to Grade four students of Al Noor International School have an opportunity to prove their ability to spell correctly. Every one of the almost one thousand four hundred students participates in the initial competition to determine the finalists.
The British Primary section’s Spelling Bee was held in the school auditorium on 3 March 2011. The School Principal, Mr Hassan Al-Mehri, and the Director, Mr Muhammad Mashood, graced the function with their presence. Also present, were the Head Teachers of the various sections of the school, coordinators and teachers. The rest of the audience consisted of students from the British Primary section of the school.
It was fifty-six very excited finalists who took their seats on the stage. Each one of them was keen to take home the coveted trophies that would be awarded at the end of the competition. The Grade one students’ spelling ability surprised everybody and it was only at the end of the fourth round that J.M. Jasaulla Khan emerged as the winner. The competition among the Grade two students was fierce until Muhammad Awaab eventually succeeded in wining the competition in this age group. A lot of encouragement from the audience enabled Ali Khalid Ali to triumph in the Grade three competition. Among the Grade four students, it was Esha Fatima who impressed everybody with her ability to spell even the most difficult words correctly.
Certificates of participation were handed out to all the finalists, while the winners of the competition were awarded trophies amid thunderous applause from the audience. As usual, the school photographer was on hand to take photographs of this memorable occasion.
